Hurricane Katrina (166 hits)

Hello:

Hurricane Katrina will go down as one of the most powerful storms of the century.
I knw there are a lot of black colleges that were in the path of the Hurricane. I know that there are many people that had relatives, familty, friends, associates etc. in those affected areas.
I pray that all is fine for you all and that there was no loss of life, property (easier said then done) can be replaced even though loss of property hurts and affects people.
I called friends and found out all are well considering, thank "God".
I pray that no one lost their life during and after this storm, this storm is traveling all the way up into Canada. A lot of people are affected, the numbers are incalcupable.
I pray that no black college student at this site lost their life.
I know there has to be black college students as well as all people that have lost homes, their cars, clothes, food etc.etc.etc.
I know that the words I say may not be much for the 2cents worth, but my heart goes out for, with and in all those affected.
If I were a wealthy man right at this moment, I would be a donator for what I can do on my part. The part that I can do presently is offer prayer.
Just know that considering what happened, "God" was still there. The hurricane lost power at the last possible second. If that storm hat hit with 175 mile per hour winds, this would have been the greatest disaster of natural origins in history.
The very landscape of Louisiana would have been changed forever.
The hurricane also shifted slightly east (30 miles) which was the only possible way to lesssen damage even though the damage is considerable, people have been killed, property lost and flooded, power losage, etc.etc.etc.
Many people chose to stay and......... respectfully.
My prayers to all those in Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana.
I could say much more, but I hope this is clarity enough for what has happened.
Prayer does work and we as a people, college population etc. should unite for all those who are in need, have suffered, knows someone etc.
Lastly this storm has complicated gas prices which will go up.
This is will be a major problem for all students who drive or receive some form of transportation.

My boyfriend has family in and around New Orleans. His aunts and uncles told him they lost everything including their dog, but no human life was lost! As soon as the roads clear/open his mother and father are going down there to up clean up. When Isaw the damage on tv I saw just the roofs of homes with families on them (all black)!

Hello Ms. Aisha:
Appreciate your time and concern.
Your boyfriend hs a good young lady by his side.
He will need your love, understanding and support.
There is a long road to travel for everything to return to some semblance of normality.
I can offer my heart and prayers which in their circumstances is understandably not of significance at this time.
But "God" was there.
Many have lost their lives and the body count unfortunately is high, many houses and places where people CHOSE to stay are under water. There is no way to get to alot of places without hope and someone seeing them.
I saw on the news the senseless ignorant, non-caring amount of people that were looting. I thought to myself, they are showing a whole lot of black folk acting without any regard for life.
The stuff they are stealing, what good is it going to do for them and with how bad things are down there, who are they going to sell it to? If anyone buys it, it makes them accomplices to injustice, Right is right and wrong is wrong.
It shows people not willing to do anything for themselves as you and your boyfriend are doing, just waiting for tragedy to strike to capitolize.
What makes it so bad, is someone knows these people and they are allowing it. Chances are most of those guilty would state a belief in "God". Go figure, there are a whole lot of dynamics going on.
I just pray for the safety of people and whatever lessons are learned from this natural castastrophy that will spread nation wide capitolized by this senseless war.
You take care and appreciate your valuable input. With all that you have going on in your life, you chose to answer here.
That is a great gift, never forget that, you think of people outside of yourself, this is not common in today's materialistic world and especially in your generation that have learned from the adults in their lives.
My applause to you Sis.
Keep up the great work.
It is people as yourself that keeps hope in this world, especially for people that will replace me one day.

Hope all is fine and well for you.
It is a great thing to see faith exhibited. We as black men always need our sisters for the inherent strength, support and nurturance regardless how many of us over look that, some for a season and some for a lifetime until they need.
Faith had an affect on that Hurricane, as one predictionist forecast, the expectations were for 50,000 people to lose their lives, no one can realize the domino affects of that.
Plus faith saved a whole world that did not seem to care, ask Noah :-).
Be Blessed because you are a Blessing to many that you may never know of but "God" knows and stores all that to let you know about in your mansion a long and fulfilled lifetime away for you:-)
