
Gardena, Calif. (August 16, 2005) - Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) along with The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) awarded ten (10) high school seniors a total of $100,000 in scholarships as part of the Nissan-UNCF “SHIFT_” Knowledge Scholarship Program during an awards dinner held recently at Nissan’s Headquarters.
The program was created in 2004 to recognize student academic achievement, community involvement and leadership, as well as honor the rich legacy of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). This year’s scholarship award amount was increased two-fold and supports NNA’s global commitment to “Enriching People’s Lives” through charitable contributions, in-kind donations and other philanthropic investments.
Ten (10), $10,000 Scholarships were awarded as follows:
Ethan Ashley from Woodrow Wilson High School, who will be attending Howard University.
Erich Baker from L.A. Jordan High School, who will be attending Tuskegee University.
Shaun'Drea Brooks from Pacific Palisades Charter High School, who will be attending Clark Atlanta University.
Melissa Freeny from King/Drew Magnet High School, who will be attending Spelman College.
Corinne Gilliard from Granada Hills Charter High School, who will be attending Howard University.
Keenon Harris from King/Drew Magnet High School, who will be attending Hampton University.
Louis Johnson from Narbonne High School, who will be attending North Carolina A&T University.
Demitrius Jones from Locke High School, who will be attending Morehouse College.
Ashlee Smith from Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies, who will be attending Hampton University.
Danielle Williams from King/Drew Magnet High School, who will be attending Howard University.
