Hampton, Va. – Hampton University President Dr. William R. Harvey has been appointed to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Board of Directors. The term began on April 30.
“The board of directors has the awesome responsibility of making policies to govern fair competitive practices and sportsmanship and to ensure the educational experience of the student-athlete is paramount. It’s an honor for me to be associated with accomplished presidents from major as well as mid-major universities as we try to help charter a course for a most important segment of our society,” said Harvey.
“I have always felt that the student portion of the student-athlete was very important. As a member of this prestigious board, I will continue to be an advocate for student-athletes to view college as a complete learning environment so that even after their playing days are over - whether it be college or the professional level - they can become useful and productive citizens.”
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is a voluntary organization through which the nation's colleges and universities govern their athletics programs. It is comprised of institutions, conferences, organizations and individuals committed to the best interests, education and athletics participation of student-athletes.
