A Question of Sovereignty (6305 hits)

“Those who day after day continue to think of themselves as sinners have no intention of changing. They deny the Grace that would fill their lives with love; they betray the consciousness that would reflect in them the clear, undiminished beauty of their eternal nature.

Repentance is a doorway, not an abode; it is of value only when it inspires healthy change and passes on into a state of restored self-acceptance. To value yourself less than God values you is not humility, it is pride of a most destructive nature.” Ken Carey

I’m inclined to believe the same is true of those in our midst who continue to bemoan the injustice of African America’s long disempowering and disenfranchisement at the deliberate hands of European Americans. We got it; we understand the election of Barack Obama has done, and likely will do, little on the ground to change race relations in this country. It certainly won’t change history pre-January 2009. Poverty is still poverty and police are still profiling. The days of our lives and the turning of the world go spinning right along.

Those same voices, earnest in their harping declarations that you, we can never rise above the American reality, are quick to slander any plan for freedom as a scam. You know saggins, they say – except their tone is more intellectual than mine- they all got a crab in a barrel attitude. They say, don’t believe it; that Black Business Builders Club ain’t offering you no leg up; they just some elitist saggins, trying to run some new version of the white man’s game.

I have to point out that too often these divisive naysayers then swing a sword dripping with the blood of the “white man’s” most pervasive and insidious lie. They twist scripture. They lie on God hoping you won’t notice that they’re lying to you.

I also have to point out to you their intellectualize warnings, if heeded will have you completely boxed in. The “white devil” obviously would rather you didn’t exist, and America certainly hasn’t turned enough corners to debate the veracity of that statement. Each of you knows the degree to which you do or don’t experience “change” in this society. I think most of us maintain our guard to some extent. Certainly a far less than ideal option when seeking an ally in attaining economic sovereignty.

But it’s a destroyer’s nature to lull with their impressive knowledge of the truth before they plant the seeds that divide and destroy. Any one that looks like you, shares your experience, shares your hope and dreams that says they know a way out is lying to you. Beware the black man, the black woman, who would teach you how to fish. They’re going to lead you down to the river, beat you over the head and cut you up for bait. Nah, what you poor, mindless saggins better do is stay right here on the No You Can’t plantation. Better stay right here where us edjamacated pontificators, who ain’t got plan the first, can continue to tell you you’re too beaten down to work a plan and we can keep getting our opportunistic egos rubbed and pockets lined working for the devourer to keep you between your rock and hard place.

I don’t know about you, but I’m tried of bemoaning and waiting for them, who ever the he** them is, to do something. I’ve got a newsflash for you; them ain’t fixin to do squat. Know why? Because the them you’re waiting for is you. We have a plan and a vehicle. Our plan isn’t perfect; we’re still working out the legalities for phase two. And the Black Business Builders Club isn’t perfect, but I’d rather drive a car with no air conditioning than walk to work. I don’t know about you, but then I’m just talking about me.
