UNCF will hold its 9th Annual Scholarship Ball (195 hits)


Giving Back: July 7

The United Negro College Fund will hold its 9th Annual Scholarship Ball, Summer Soiree on July 29 to award 32 scholarships to students from Southeast Michigan entering their freshman year at a historically black college or university (HBCU).

Soiree (Securing Opportunities and Important Resources for Educational Excellence)'s sponsors included Ford Motor Co. (No. 11 on The DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity list), DaimlerChrysler Corp. (No. 3 on The Top 10 Companies for Supplier Diversity list) and General Motors Corp. (No. 48 on The DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity list), AAA Michigan, Bank One, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, the City of Pontiac, Comcast, DaimlerChrysler (No. 7 on The Top 10 Companies for Supplier Diversity list and one of the 25 Noteworthy Companies), Comerica (No. 34 on The DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity list), Detroit Youth Foundation, DTE Energy Foundation, The Michigan Chronicle and Michigan Front Page, Masco Corp, Procter & Gamble (No. 27 on The DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity list), Radio One, UAW Ford and Visteon Corporation (No. 43 on The DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity list).

UNCF supports 65,000 students at more than 950 colleges and universities. Approximately 92 percent of UNCF students require financial assistance; 59 percent are from families with gross incomes of less than $25,000; and roughly half are from single-parent families.
