About the Conference

Tuskegee University College of Engineering, Architecture and Physical Sciences is

affordability to rebuild the South in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan (September 2004).

The National Conference entitled, “Rebuilding the South in the Aftermath of
Hurricane Ivan: Technology, Energy Efficiency and Affordability,” brings
national attention to the devastation and to the rebuilding that continues for these reasons.

§ Hurricane Ivan’s impact has been economical by diminishing commerce, travel and development.

§ The reduction of commercial building development has been enormous.

§ As the rebuilding commences, there is a need to increase the number of high performance buildings that will be developed in the future.

The Purpose

This conference organizes support in the interest of the entire South and other
devastated areas and gathers potential donors to address renewable energy
and energy efficiency projects, models, and concepts together in a sustainable
plan for assisting areas of calamity. It is anticipated that the Conference will
identify the following goals:

§ Increase the number of high performance buildings

§ Help partnerships implement community-wide energy efficiency and renewable energy improvements

§ Provide technical assistance tools, resources, and services

§ Ensure a well-trained and sufficient force of program representatives

§ Leverage partnership support with public benefits funds and other fiscal resources

§ Ensure a viable and integrated network of strategic and business partners

§ Promote and market the program and partnerships

The Participants

The conference will bring together national leadership, regional experience
and scholarly researchers to address and have a realistic conversation to
prepare the country on the devastation that occurred.

Tuskegee University is partnering with the World Council of Mayors, the states of
Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, and Florida, along with the Department of Energy,
and an array of other partners in academe to include the engineering/architecture/construction

This effort will bring various partners together to network, understand the plight of the South
and develop a collaborative spirit for the states of Mississippi, Florida, Louisiana and Alabama.

The College of Engineering, Architecture and Physical Science at Tuskegee University,
the World Conference of Mayors with support from the Alabama Department of Economic and
