Im a recent college graduate and im now looking to get my MBA. Because the MBA is a sought after degree, should i be particular in where i obtain it from? What would be the advantages/disadvantages of getting it from a HBCU like Howard or Hampton versus getting it from a regular school like University of Maryland or Georegetown? I plan to get into conulting and/or own my own business. Would my chances be affected greatly by the school I go to?
This is the response she received:
Janiece,
I am the Director of MBA, Programs at Clark Atlanta University. The one thing you should always consider is your return on investment. How much you pay for your MBA versus the amount of money you make coming out. We MBA concentrations in Finance, Marketing and Decision Sciences. Our graduating class of 2004 placement salaries, compared to Harvard MBA class of 2004 are relatively the same. You can verify this by going on to our website at CAU.edu and Harvard's website to see for yourself.
We seek to empower our students, not just educate them. We believe that even if you want to become an entreprenuer, an MBA can definately help you. It teaches you to think on a higher level. Remember, small business owners and large corporations make the same business decisions everyday, just on a different scale. The information necessary to be successful is still the same.
We teach our students who want to be entreprenuers to use corporate america to gain the skills set necessary to be successful in the industry they want to go into business.
Regular schools don't teach from a perspective of coming back into the black community and generating the cycle of wealth within our community. HBCU's specialize in that perspective.
If you would like to talk to me personally, contact me at 404-880-8443. Patrick Amos, Director MBA programs, Clark Atlanta University.
