The Blogger: BET Awards Special Edition (472 hits)

Welcome to the The Blogger: BET Awards Special Edition. Very action-packed night into 4 hours. I ended up missing about 40 minutes of it, because I thought it would start at 8. So, I'll start from where I came in, and keep going that way. Plus, in order to keep it kinda short, I'll only do the stuff that interested me. Anywho, let's get to it.

The most eye-raising performance had to be Destiny's Child's "Cater 2 U." What was interesting though was that Beyonce didn't "cater" to Jay-Z. I thought it would be him, as it would finally confirm the many rumors that they are indeed boyfriend and girlfriend. What else was interesting was that Kelly picked Nelly? Yeah...I doubt it was a coincidence. But they do look good together, so I have no problem with them doing their thing. Now...Michelle...boo. You fell once, and you almost did it again. I don't know if anyone else noticed, but she was so uncoordinated in the performance. She was always two steps behind everyone else from the beginning when she kept looking down so she wouldn't fall again. Hilarious performance by Michelle.

I must say that the commercials were funny. The Southwest Airlines one killed it! How are you going to leave your girl hanging on a kiss for a low travel fare? What made it really funny is the fact that she hit the floor still going for the kiss! The other funny commercial was the G-Unit sneaker commercial. Lloyd Banks messed that dude up by opening the car door like that! Good stuff. I felt like I was watching the SuperBowl...

The Anthony Anderson/Set It Off girls segment was funny as hell. They wrong to do him like that. Got that man crying on TV like that! Man...Anthony Anderson needs to get a star role in a movie soon. He's a good actor. It kills me that he is killing his career with all of these "B" roles. Do your thing Anthony!!!

T.I. did his thing with his performance. Very innovative as he had a live band playing "Bring Em Out." That's a break from the usual rapper and his crew performing. Innovative and creative performance from T.I. I enjoyed it, even though at times it sounded like the band was little behind. Still a good performance.

I'm highly disappointed with Kanye West winning the best male in hip-hop award. He hasn't really put anything out in the past year, so why give it to him? I wouldn't have agreed if Jay-Z got it either as he's been silent as well. I think Ludacris or T.I. deserves it. They both have upped their game and did their thing for the past year, and they have definitely improved. Kanye West doesn't deserve it.

The ODB "memorial" wasn't good. How are you going to honor a "pioneer" without a video tribute? What was going through Viacom's mind when they planned this? He has had some videos, so a video tribute wouldn't have been hard. They could've also gotten some home videos as well. Bad memorial done, and it should've stayed off the show if it was going to be done poorly like this. The other tributes go the same way. No one had a video tribute, which sucked. They know that they could've shelled out a few more dollars in order to video tributes...

Steve Harvey turned the normally dull introduction of the Lifetime Achievement Award into something interesting. I liked how he said, "40 years without a police record. Didn't jump on Aretha Franklin in the studio. Didn't have a gun hanging out the limo shooting at Whitney Houston." That was hilarious. I'm glad that she got the award. Gladys Knight has been doing her thing for the longest (since the age of 4). She definitely deserves all of the recognition. BET makes their Hall of Fame interesting, as it inducts GOOD members. It doesn't induct crappy gangster wannabes (Bobby Brown) in for a popularity contest. Good job BET.

Is it me or does Faith Evans get s*xier everytime I see her? Faith was looking real good last night. That's how you have tatoos and still look s*xy! I won't even comment on Toni Braxton. I want my soulmate (whoever she is) to stay that fine after that long. But either way, I'll still love her. Alicia Keys...enough said. She looked so DANG fine last night. Alicia Keys, if you ever read this, COME TO GRAMBLING! She has one of the best vocals in the businesses, and I would love to hear her sing live. Man...she is very talented. That's something that only the real brothers can appreciate.

Hilarious segment with Will Smith talking about lap dances. Destiny's Child reaction was priceless. Will Smith still has that comedy value in him after over 7 years of Fresh Prince. And Jada wrong for putting him out there like that though. I thought lap dances were private? Maybe not anymore...

Did anyone besides me see something wrong with Fantasia's performance of a gospel song? She came out wearing tight pants, looking s*xy, and started dancing. Hmmm... However, the performance was good, and it's something new I haven't seen, which is rare with gospel songs as people are afraid to break tradition. The dancing was a break from your usual gospel singer in front and choir in back. I liked the song as well. Very well put together, even though it was a little redundant. Very good performance, and hopefully Fantasia will put on a less skimpy outfit than the one she had on next time she sings about God...

Ciara proved to me that she cannot perform and sing. Many times during her performance, she let the tape do the singing for her. That's all I need to know to know that she cannot sing and perform. Now, maybe she can sing, but she cannot sing and perform. Otherwise, she would've sung the whole song without lipsyncing. It was an ok performance though. Ludacris definitely did his thing, leaving instead of staying out there for no reason whatsoever.

Man...what is the deal with everyone thinking that Kanye West is a gospel artist? He made ONE song talking about Jesus, and he's a gospel artist. NO! He is NOT a gospel artist. He is a hip-hop star. Please do not make Kanye a gospel star. That's an insult to hardworking gospel artists everywhere who do not cuss or call women the "B" word. Kanye West is an insult to the gospel genre as a gospel singer. While his song, "Jesus Walks," was a good song, it was not a gospel song. A lot of other rappers have rapped about God; where is their recognition?

Wow...big props to Missy Elliot, who should be an inspiration to overweight people. I remember when she first came out how overweight she was. Now, she's very slim. I think she deserves the "Biggest Loser" award (the show was about who could lose the most weight in a couple of weeks). Missy, I'm proud of you. You are definitely an inspiration to any overweight person out there that want to lose weight, but don't think that they can.

Overall, the BET Awards was ok. It hurt the show that most of the award winners were not present to accept the award. That really wasn't good. Hopefully, BET will work harder to get them to appear on the show. I also thought that performances from 50 Cent, Eminem, and the crew were needed. It would've definitely hyped up the Anger Management Tour 2005, and it would've livened up the whole show. The best performance from what I saw would have to be T.I. or the gospel group. Both did something different from the usual cliche which was a plus. BET needs to do a better job of getting its award winners there. You hardly EVER see a MTV award winner miss the show. Well...that's it for now. I'm out peeps!
