Electrical Design Engineer
Job Summary:
The Engineer, Mechanical or Electrical (ME or EE) is the person responsible for engineering and designing the products we build. He/she is also the person designers and drafters in the engineering department can go to for help. An engineer can range from entry level to the associate level (does not include Senior Engineer). This is a person who has an entry level to advanced level of knowledge and experience with regards to the product line and or discipline (mechanical or electrical) that they are assigned to represent.

Any engineer should be able to answer technical questions on their assigned product line or discipline. Participation in the quote process and order development process may also be required. Insuring that accurate, up to date information is provided to the designers and draftsmen for processing orders is up to this individual. Contact and involvement with the marketing team, customers, suppliers, and certification agencies (such as UL and others) may be required. Good written and verbal communication skills are an essential part of this job. Good technical writing skills are also required.

The ability to clearly communicate with all levels of the engineering team is a must. This person owns the jobs and projects they are assigned to engineer and design. This person will act as a liaison between manufacturing, the customer or suppliers and our engineering team as needed. Excellent problem-solving skills are expected for all engineers. This person will be required to provide accurate and timely feedback to the lead engineer and the rest of the engineering team as required.

The engineer will review all jobs with the lead engineer (or his/her designee) before they are released to manufacturing. The engineer is expected to take responsibility for any job they have released to manufacturing and follow that job until it ships. Any customer complaints will be processed by the engineer responsible for the job.

Responsibilities:
Takes direction from the lead engineer or engineering manager.

Provide direction for the designers and draftsmen as needed.

Comply with all company policies and department procedures. Lead by example regarding each one.

Interfaces with (including but not limited to) marketing, customers, all facets of manufacturing, quality, regulatory agencies and standards groups.

Participates in quote and order reviews and provides input with regards to quotes and orders.

Feeds work to the designers under the direction of the lead or senior engineers. Note - The engineers main focus should be engineering and designing the products we build. Drafting work, schematics, one line diagrams, layouts, text files, editing drawings are all part of the engineering a job. However, when possible, this type of work should be given to a designer to complete. This decision may be difficult at times. Therefore the senior or lead engineer should be consulted for work distribution.

Responsible to meet the master schedule promise dates for the jobs assigned.

Strives to identify cost savings equal to or exceeding annual salary, or as required by engineering manager every year.

Insures that department goals as identified by the engineering manager are met.

Provide technical support and guidance to all facets of the business.
Develop, create and maintain department procedures as needed.

Review for release all approval drawings with lead or senior engineer prior to sending to customers.

Review all manufacturing drawings and BOM’s for the jobs assigned, prior to release to the shop floor.

Assist with R & D efforts as needed.

Direct and participate in cost savings projects as instructed by the lead engineer or engineering manager.

Adhere to and comply with all company policies and department procedures.

Work overtime as required or directed to by the lead engineer or engineering manager.

Travel Requirements:
Must be willing to travel.
Must be willing to assist field service activities as required.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.

Ability to travel throughout facility as required to perform essential duties.

Qualifications & Requirements
Required Qualifications:
A B.S. degree in the assigned discipline (mechanical or electrical) is desired. A two year technical degree in the assigned discipline is required. This requirement can be waived in lieu of equivalent experience as determined by the engineering manager and the human resources manager. A minimum of three years industry experience in the assigned discipline is required. Special skill sets include familiarity of pertinent standards including but not limited to UL, IEEE, ANSI and NEMA as they apply to our products.
