The Sr. Staff Formulation Biochemist, Development Science Microbiologyfor Beckman Coulter is responsible for developing new and updated assay formulations for our Gold Standard Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (AST) platform.

This position is part of Development Science located in Sacramento, California and will be hybrid. At Beckman Coulter, our vision is to relentlessly reimagine healthcare, one diagnosis at a time.

You will be a part of the Development Science Formulation team, you will initially be reporting to the Director, Development Science who is responsible for the consumable product development and post launch sustaining activities for Microbiology. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

• Lead the formulation development of new and updated assays used for antimicrobial susceptibility testing

• Determine optimal assay performance based upon current manufacturing processes and controls

• Prepare reports and technical presentations

• Update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as needed

• Establish Standard Work within the Formulation group

• Lead process improvement and problem-solving activities

• Be the Chemical Safety Officer for Development Science

The essential requirements of the job include:

• Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry with 14+ years OR Masters Degree in Biochemistry, or related discipline with 12+ years of experience OR PhD with 9+ years of experience

• Strong understanding and application of Design of Experiments

• Significant experience in antimicrobial susceptibility product development in a regulated medical device field, ISO 13485 and FDA 21CFR Part 820

• Experience with an interdisciplinary range of laboratory techniques including HPLC, Mass Spectrophotometry, AST

• Experience with interactions between microorganisms and antimicrobial agents especially with respect to microbial resistant mechanisms with strong understanding of bacterial growth media use in antimicrobial susceptibility testing.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

• Working with a breakpoint setting organizations e.g., CLSI and EUCAST
