Job Description

The University Technology Office (UTO) is looking for a highly motivated Department HR Specialist to coordinate the human resource functions related to UTO. You will be part of a highly efficient team that works collaboratively, while still allowing room for individual accomplishments. The Department HR Specialist functions will include payroll management; staffing coordination; human resource compliance; internal controls; maintaining and retention of unit personnel files, and other functions designated by unit administrator. Essential Duties

Works closely with college administration and central OHR to coordinate all departmental human resource activities to ensure adherence with college and university policies, practices and regulations.
May perform all activities associated with Department Time Administrator to ensure accurate and timely recording of exception and positive time for all UTO employees.
Coordinates and processes personnel searches and hiring, and maintains personnel files consistent with University policies and practices.
Investigates payroll discrepancies and works as a liaison between the unit and human resources to reach a solution.
Works closely with college administration and central OHR Benefits office to research and resolve staff and student benefit issues.
Performs other duties as assigned to ensure continual efficient operations of department to meet customer service needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND two (2) years of related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge of all applicable federal, state and regulatory requirements, laws and standards.
Demonstrated knowledge of quality customer service standards, methods and practices.
Demonstrated knowledge of basic human resource practices, regulations and standards.
Experience using PeopleSoft, Brass Ring, and Microsoft products.
Skill in planning, analyzing and establishing priorities.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Evidence of effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to work effectively in an environment subject to quickly changing priorities, sensitive/confidential information and short deadlines.
Ability to lead by example in communicating, participating and encouraging support of the institution's sustainability programs.
Ability to model empathy, compassion and emotional intelligence

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse
Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions
Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals
This position receives regular review of objectives by department administrator
