Job Description
Social Worker (Program Coordinator Healthcare for Homeless Veterans)
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date 05/31/2019 this announcement.
Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to the CSWE website to verify if that social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a master of social work. Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Current state requirements may be found on the OHRM website. Physical Requirements: VA Directive and Handbook 5019 states that applicants must complete a pre-employment physical with the possibility of a drug screen. English Language Proficiency: Social workers must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j. Preferred Experience: At least two years assessing the needs of Veterans assigned and document the social support services provided utilizing patient centered care approach to assure Veteran is involved in decisions regarding their healthcare.
Grade Determinations: Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level. Their experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. They may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the professional KSAs in subparagraph (b) below: In-depth knowledge of the programs and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program. Knowledge and skill in management/administration, which includes supervision, consultation, negotiation, and monitoring. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program. Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet multiple deadlines, and evaluate assigned program areas. Ability to provide training, orientation, consultation and guidance within clinical specialization of practice. Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary. Typically, the employee will sit to do the work. However, there may be some walking standing, bending, carrying of light items, accessing transportation, and/or driving a government vehicle. The work requires patience and control of emotions. Work may require occasional use of appropriate techniques to physically restrain clients who present a danger to self or others
