Some of the duties include;
Assures the protection of human subjects involved in research with regard to safety and misconduct;
Assures compliance with all animal welfare regulations, biosafety and biosecurity requirements, and information security requirements;
Provides professional service to the Chair, Institutional Review Board (IRB) and investigators;
Identifies, develops, disseminates audit tools and mechanisms to assure compliance with Federal and state regulations applicable to research;
Reviews Federal regulations and participates actively in implementing Federal regulations on Conflict of Interest;
Participates actively in implementing regulations and polices regarding research misconduct.
Performs administrative reviews of protocol submissions (e.g., initial review, continuing review, modifications, and adverse events) and responses to the IRB;
Trains investigators, research coordinators, research managers, and others, regarding compliance with applicable research guidelines and regulations;
Serves as a local resource for regulations, polices, memoranda, alerts, and other VA and federal requirements related to research compliance;
Serves as a non-voting member on the Institutional Review Board, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Biosafety Committee, and Research and Development Committee;
Develop policies, procedures, and criteria for monitoring compliance and assisting researchers in meeting the requirements of the organization's Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) through continuing evaluation and review;
Monitors compliance by reviewing, auditing, and advising throughout the approval and continuing review processes for research projects conducted through the facility's research program;'
Monitors compliance in administration of tests and measurements according to approved project design to verify protection of all human participants;
Ensures prompt reporting in accordance with all applicable policies to the Office of Research Oversight, Office for Human Research Protections, and Food and Drug Administration; and,
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.

Physical Requirements: The work of this position is sedentary; however, there is periodic walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as medical records, instructional material, books, and manuals. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, and residences or commercial vehicles. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Travel for training and other meetings is required.
Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
