The LVN performs patient care duties under the direct supervision of the RN. He/she provides patient care which is appropriate to the cognitive, emotional, spiritual, chronological, recreational, and diversion needs of the adult (ages 17-59) or geriatric (ages 60+) patient. The LVN demonstrates knowledge of changes associated with aging and provides care based upon age related factors as specified in his/her competencies. Contributes to the interdisciplinary team in developing, implementing, and evaluating the patient's treatment plan for the following Surgical Specialty Clinics; General, Vascular, Urology, ENT, Orthopedic, Podiatry, Neurology or Thoracic Patients, Plastics, Pain and Minor Surgery.
The LVN will be cross trained to meet the needs of patients in one or more of the clinics listed. Practice is based on current and anticipated trends in health care. The LVN Surgical Specialty Clinic Nurse: Demonstrates and maintains core and unit specific competencies. Administers medications appropriately, following the 5"R's" of medication administration and established facility and service policies and procedures. Knowledgeable of the expected therapeutic results (and possible side effects) of medications administered, as well as medication administration issues for adult and elderly patients. Educates patients regarding medications, therapeutic uses, possible side effects, etc. The nurse is responsible safety and infection control practices on the unit, working with the nurse manager to ensure compliance with regulations. The nurse is responsible for the completion of clinical reminders.
The incumbent is directly responsible to the RN Supervisor Surgical Specialty Clinics. Clinic Nursing and Procedural experience, in the listed specialty areas, are preferred. Demonstrates ability to interact w/ others effectively & appropriately, presenting a professional image of the service & the VA. Demonstrates skills in performing multiple tasks, managing assignments, & expediting oral & written communications.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00am - 3:30 pm, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, with possibility of rotating Tour of Duty to include days, weekends, and extended hours. Tours of duty may include, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, 9:30 am - 6:00 pm, and 11:30 am - 8:00 pm.
