In 2016, Hidden Figures shattered box-office expectations and cultural assumptions, proving that stories about brilliant Black women aren’t niche, they’re necessary. Now, filmmaker Nadhege aims to carry that torch forward with The Absolute Picture, a film that reclaims the story of Annie Malone, one of America’s earliest self-made Black millionaires, and reframes her legacy for a new generation.
Through her production company MAAT Films, Nadhege has launched an $80,000 fundraising campaign for The Absolute Picture, a visually bold short that serves as the foundation for a larger anthology TV series spotlighting pioneering African American women throughout history.
At its core, the film follows Zoe, a foster teen artist whose sketches mysteriously open a portal through time, summoning Madam C.J. Walker and Annie Malone to reconcile their shared truths. What unfolds is a visually mesmerizing meditation on legacy and belonging where the past and present collide through live action, animation, and AI-enhanced effects reminiscent of Take On Me’s surreal aesthetic.
“This film is about legacy, empowerment, and identity,” Nadhege says. “It’s designed to help young Black girls connect to herstory, to know that they come from greatness.”
For Nadhege, Annie Malone’s story represents more than a business triumph; it’s a symbol of innovation, mentorship, and cultural pride. Decades before “Black Girl Magic” became a rallying cry, Malone built a beauty empire that educated and employed thousands of women creating a model of self-sufficiency and social entrepreneurship that still resonates today.
“When you look at what Annie Malone accomplished with building a million-dollar enterprise at a time when Black women weren’t even recognized as citizens, it’s astonishing,” Nadhege reflects. “Her story isn’t just historical, it’s visionary.”
It’s that vision that Nadhege believes can also translate to commercial success. The cultural momentum behind projects like Hidden Figures and Netflix’s The Six Triple Eight demonstrates that audiences worldwide are hungry for stories that celebrate brilliance, sisterhood, and perseverance.
“The Absolute Picture” blends this historical richness with modern cinematic innovation, positioning itself as both entertainment and education, a new lane where art meets activism.
Beyond film, Nadhege’s creative ecosystem bridges storytelling, psychology, and wellness. With degrees in Psychology (Morgan State University) and Forensic Psychology (John Jay College), she designs art that heals. Her registered trademark Paris Blues in Harlem® explores legacy and love through intergenerational storytelling, while Paris & Pop-Pop: Make Grandfathers Great Again fosters community healing. Her educational program, The Absolute Picture™ (TAP): Science of Self, teaches young Black girls to merge STEM, art, and mindfulness through the Sacred Sanctuary Method turning film themes into tangible empowerment.
Nadhege’s artistic résumé spans networks including CBS, PBS, NBC, ABC, and FOX, and her voice continues to resonate at the intersection of art and cultural activism. Through The Absolute Picture, she aims not only to correct the record but to inspire a generation to see themselves reflected in their ancestors’ genius.
“Our ancestors built worlds,” Nadhege says. “Now it’s our turn to show them on screen so the next generation knows exactly whose shoulders they stand on.”
