Alcorn State University is committed to doing everything we can to ensure the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff is continuing to closely monitor the global pandemic, COVID-19. Our campus health center indicates there are no confirmed cases on any of our campuses. With the increasing news and information surrounding this fluid health emergency, we are appreciative of the Alcorn community coming together to work through these unprecedented times. Please note the University is open for business and academic and campus operations are continuing.

President Nave has stood up a task force that is proactively engaging and collaborating across campus and with external partners to effectively develop and coordinate plans to continue fulfilling our mission and obligations as an institution of higher learning. As we prepare to implement adjusted operations plans for the remainder of the semester, we want to make sure the community is kept up to date on our efforts.

The university has announced, beginning Monday, March 23, 2020, all classes will be delivered online using Canvas, Zoom, and other virtual platforms. Academic Affairs faculty and staff are working with CITS to identify additional steps, training, and preparation that needs to take place for the digital delivery of classes, advising, and the offering faculty office hours. More information regarding this process will be released soon. Below are key university announcements for the campus and general public.

• Spring Break has been extended through Sunday, March 22, 2020.

• Due to the uncertainty, this public health issue is creating, Alcorn is suspending all university-related and sponsored domestic and international travel for the foreseeable future.

• The University is canceling all outbound study abroad programs until further notice.

• All conferences and workshops supported, hosted, or sponsored (in whole or part) by the University are postponed and efforts will be made to reschedule where possible.

• University activities that expect or will have 100 or more persons in attendance are canceled - whether on campus or off campus (i.e. campus tours, convocations, etc.)

• Students and employees returning to campus are encouraged to bring their own personal hygiene and disinfectant supplies (hand sanitizer, wipes, etc.).

Students should note that if they have made arrangements to return to campus prior to the extension of Spring Break, they may still do so as previously scheduled. There are no fines or prohibitions on returning to your residence hall. To help keep track of those returning, we ask you to complete a Self-Reporting Questionnaire to assist Student Affairs with planning. A Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) that provides additional guidance and information regarding residence life, financial aid, and traditional campus-based activities and events will be released soon.

Below are some basic good hygiene and protective measures respected healthcare organizations recommend everyone practice.

• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

• Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.

• Make sure to avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands and avoid personal contact with sick people.

• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

• Recognize the symptoms of this illness which may include a high fever, cough, difficulty breathing, similar to what you may feel with the flu or a bad cold.

• If you are experiencing these symptoms, seek medical care from your health care provider immediately and if you are on campus, notify the Campus Health Center.
