Warning: Professional Sports Don't Make Millionaires (724 hits)

Press Release

Dallas, TX-/July 16, 2014- Chris “Fish” Fisher, Co-Founder and Senior Managing Partner of Elite 35 Sports Institute, and Millicent G. Callahan, Founder and Director of Business Management for First Chronicles,(Dillard University Graduate) are set to release their new book entitled “Warning: Professional Sports Don’t Make Millionaires”.

“Many athletes grow up believing the myth that professional sports will take away their financial worries for the rest of their life,” Millicent states. Millicent has worked as Financial Adviser to athletes and high net worth individuals for almost 15 years. “Although a large number of athletes receive high paying contracts that are coveted by most individuals, several athletes find themselves without money and much of a future after their playing days conclude. The real problem is that many athletes are not trained on how to be successful in the areas of business and personal finances. The lack of training causes many to fall post their playing career.”

In recent years, the devastating financial troubles of professional athletes have been well documented. In 2009, Sports Illustrated reported 60% of NBA players are broke within 5 years of leaving the game and an astounding 78% of NFL players suffer the same financial fate. In 2012, ESPN aired the 30 for 30 documentary entitled “Broke”, which contained interviews of pro athletes who talked about the financial issues within professional sports.

The book is a business fable of a rookie super star athlete who recently was drafted to play professional basketball. For years, he dreamed of making it big as a professional athlete. Now that his dream is finally here, he enters a new lifestyle that he finds himself unprepared for. Through his journey he is given proven business strategies to help combat the different issues he faces as a professional athlete. Some of the topics covered are Millionaires: What They Do that Most Don’t, How to bring V.A.L.U.E. to your Business Plan, Balling on a Budget: 12 Rules to Help You Excel at Budgeting, How to Build a Power Team You can Trust, Establishing a Solid Exit Strategy, and more. Although the book is aimed to capture the attention of athletes from high school to the professional rank, the principles are relevant to any entrepreneur looking to gain an edge in their given industry.

The book is already receiving rave reviews from folks within the sports industry. Leigh Steinberg, prominent sports agent also known as the Real Jerry Maguire, states, “This book is a compelling new cautionary tale on the dangers facing suddenly wealthy athletes and specific steps to avoid the pitfalls”. Also weighing in on the book is former NFL player and University of Nevada Class of 2008 Hall of Fame Inductee James Cannida. “All I can say is WOW! The book is dead on, and a must read for athletes and anyone in business. I personally know athletes who could have benefited from this book.”

With this book, they looking to provide a new hope for athletes who are serious about winning in the areas of business and personal finances. “My goal is to spark a new movement called the Athletic Mogul Movement,” Fisher states. “I want to help as many athletes build a stronger business mindset in order to positively impact their financial future.” As a FAMU MBA, Fisher is a Business Coach to professional athletes and small business owners. He also splits time as a high school football coach in Dallas, TX.

The book is set to release July 22, 2014, one day prior to the start of the Summer Pro League tournament. It will be available for sale in both paperback and eBook form on Amazon.com, Barns & Noble, iTunes, and on the book’s website www.WarningProSports.com
